On 20th February, two visitors from Newton Presbytery (Presbyterian Church USA): Elder Nancy Steiner and Mj Finken accompanied by the presbytery officials and PEC board paid a visit to Presbyterian Education Centre (PEC) Soweto where Nairobi East Presbytery has a school for vulnerable children. They were visiting on behalf of Newton partnership committee New Jersey. The centre also acts as a feeding place for slums children who can hardly afford a meal a day. The presbytery pays the salaries for teachers and other staff involved in the running of the school. Parishes within Nairobi East Presbytery provide food in the form of donations and also provide the cash for daily operational expenses. Individuals members mostly from the presbytery have sponsored kids in order to enable them continue with their education.

PCUSA Newton presbytery has been giving some donations for teachers salaries for many years however currently they are unable to do the same but they have come up with another initiative to supplement what the presbytery is doing and that’s running a campaign in the USA for individual to sponsors an individual childs educational journey. So far well wishers from Newton presbytery have identified and sponsored 4 children’s tuition expenses to further their educational journey. For more information please click here to learn more about the project and sponsor a child’s dream. Sponsoring a kid for tuition only is Kshs 21,000.
